New Tools for Project Leaders: Social Media, Announcements & Datasheet Creator

Hello, project leaders!

We’re so grateful you’ve chosen CitSci as the place to engage volunteers with your important work.

If you haven’t in a while, this might be a good time to log back into CitSci.org and navigate over to your profile and the projects you manage. We have some new features to share with you.

Once you make it to your profile and click on the relevant project you run under the “My Projects” tab, you can use the below features to the fullest.

Table of Contents:

  1. Social Media on Your Project Profile
  2. New Feature: Announcements
  3. Datasheet Creator: Multiselect
  4. We’d love to feature you on social media, our blog, and our newsletter

Caroline, our communications lead, will demonstrate below with her “GoBituary” project (off-topic shameless plug from Caroline: it’s like an obituary, but on-the-go; cool crowdsourced digital humanities project; check it out!).

Social Media on Your Project Profile

When you visit your CitSci.org project page and click “edit,” you now have the opportunity to add an Instagram URL.

Doing this means a link to your Instagram profile will be on the project’s homepage!

New Feature: Announcements

In the same “edit” section, you can also add an “Announcement” to your page.

When you do that, a banner will be added to the top of the page, and all participants will be emailed with your announcement. The announcement will stay at the top of the page until you remove it.

Datasheet Creator: Multiselect

The datasheet creator is at the core of many CitSci.org projects. Navigate there by clicking the “Datasheets” tab.

From here, either create a new datasheet or edit an existing one.

We’ll demonstrate the new multiselect feature (available on the CitSci.org website and mobile app) by editing our existing GoBituary datasheet.

First, make sure you’re happy with the instructions and basic features.

Then, click “Continue.”

Now, drag the “Dropdown – Multiple Selection” element to your datasheet on the right.

After that, simply fill out what you want the question text to be!

Then, publish/save your work so participants can get started.

We’d love to feature you on social media, our blog, and our newsletter

Want more project participants? Eager to share outcomes from your project? Whatever you have to say, we want to feature you! Email our communications lead, caroline@scistarter.org, if you’re interested.

Stay in touch, and thanks for being involved in citizen science!
