Hello, CitSci community!
Every year, people around the world use CitSci to turn curiosity into discovery — tracking clouds for NASA, monitoring ecosystems, and cleaning up communities. At CitSci, we give you the tools to do great science.
This year, we surpassed 20,000 members!
All-time impact, by the numbers:
- 1,500+ projects hosted on CitSci
- 2.4 million+ scientific measurements collected
- 178,000+ observations submitted
And just this last year (July 2024-June 2025) alone, we saw 37,000+ unique visitors (a 142.9% increase from last year!), with a huge bump of traffic in June.
Behind these numbers is groundbreaking science and action. Here are just a few examples:

THE EXTREMOPHILES CAMPAIGN: After extensive media attention from NPR & others, over 1,300 observations were made of microbes – living everywhere from household dishwasher slime to hot springs – that could help fight climate change. CSU students Jacob Hall and Emma Lopez. Courtesy of SeedLabs

LEAVE NO TRASH: In April 2025, 11 universities in the United States and 7 universities in Nigeria participated in the Leave No Trash University Challenge run by Leave No Trace, recording 2,200+ gallons of trash picked up. University of Florida students. Courtesy of Caroline Nickerson

GULLS EATING STUFF: This year alone, nearly 2,000 observations revealed unique gull dietary preferences, with urban gulls chowing down on street food and gulls worldwide preying on creatures like worms and moles. A gull, eating stuff. Courtesy of Alison Deegan
