As we begin 2026, we’re sharing CitSci’s 2024–2025 Annual Report, which reflects our work from July 2024 through June 2025, aligned with the academic calendar that guides our outreach, extension, research, and student engagement.

Within the report, you’ll find:

  • A snapshot of our most active year yet, with participants from 100+ countries and major growth in site engagement and reach
  • Nearly 16,500 data observations contributed to citizen science projects, with participation peaking during Global Citizen Science Month in April
  • Community-powered research outcomes, including:
    • Climate-relevant extremophile microbiome studies
    • University-led trash cleanup efforts across the U.S. and Nigeria
    • Global observations revealing unexpected gull dietary patterns
  • New platform features designed to better support research, teaching, and ethics, including improved datasheets, communication tools, and privacy controls
  • Student spotlights showcasing the graduate and undergraduate developers, researchers, and communicators who helped advance CitSci’s work—and earned national recognition
  • Growing public visibility, with CitSci and hosted projects featured by outlets including NPR, Smithsonian Magazine, Grist, and The Guardian
