How to Create A CitSci Account

Creating an account with CitSci is the first step to becoming part of the CitSci community and accessing our resources for your citizen science project! Having an account with CitSci allows you to create projects, collect data, and find community in the expansive world of citizen science. In this tutorial, we’ll go through each step in the process of creating an account.

Does an account give me full access to resources in CitSci?

Yes! When you make an account with CitSci, you are given unlimited access to all the tools and resources provided by CitSci.

Does it cost money to have an account?

Nope! Making an account and accessing resources through CitSci is completely free.

ProTip: Consider what username and password you want to use for your CitSci Account

STEP 1: Find the Home Page 

The Home Page gives a general overview of how CitSci.org works and what resources we provide. To move to the Home Page in our website, click on the “CitSci” icon located in the top left corner of the website.

STEP 2: Click on the Sign Up Link

On the CitSci.org website, you have the option to log into an existing account or create a new account. To create a new account, click on the Sign Up link located in the upper-middle of the Home Page. This will bring you to the Sign Up page. 

ProTip: If you already have an account, look for the Login link at the top right of the Home Page

STEP 3: Fill out Information Requested

On the Sign Up, you will see six lines that ask for information needed to create your account. Your account is unique to you and will be used for all your work within CitSci.org. 

Name

The first two lines are for your first and last name. Please use the name you would like to be referred to for your work with CitSci.

Email

The third line is for your email. Please provide an email that you have easy access to and check on a regular basis. Any email provider is acceptable. An example of an appropriate email is NewCitSciMember@provider.com.

Username and Password

The fourth and fifth lines are for you to choose a unique username and password that you will easily remember for logging into CitSci.org. Your username must be at least 2 characters long and your password must be at least 5 characters long. The sixth line asks you to confirm your password by typing it again.

ProTip: Avoid using the same password for multiple sites and keep your password safe by not sharing it with anyone you don’t know. 

Security Check

The last step in the process of joining CitSci is checking off the reCAPTCHA “I’m not a robot” box. This helped CitSci ensure that only real people (like you!) are signing up to use CitSci. 

ProTip: Be sure to check the Receive Newsletter box at the end of the information list to receive updates and news from CitSci!

STEP 4: Submit

The next step in making an account with CitSci is to click “Sign up”! You’ll find this icon at the bottom of the Sign Up page. When you click sign up, you will receive a confirmation email to the address you provided.

ProTip: If you do not see the confirmation email in your inbox, check your Spam folder. If you still can’t find it, please send us a help email from our contact page.

STEP 5: Complete the Registration 

The last step in making an account with CitSci is to click on the link provided by CitSci.org in the middle of the email page. This will bring you to the Log In Page where you will be asked to provide your username and password. After signing in, you’ll have full access to all the resources provided by CitSci.

STEP 6: Signing in

Now that you have a CitSci account, you can sign in at any time using the Login icon at the top right of the Home Page.

ProTip: If you forget your username and password, click the Forgot Username and Password link on the Log In page, where you will be asked to provide your email and will receive your username and a new password for your account.
